Oriental Bay Residents Association was established in August 1985. Its primary purpose is to ensure all residents and businesses continue to enjoy living in “The Bay”. We do this by:

  • Staying informed about upcoming changes (eg, interaction with agencies and organisations such as Wellington City Council, the NZ Transport Agency and event management companies)

  • Bay View newsletters – these interesting newsletters are produced twice yearly, in May and November.

  • Fundraising for local amenities (eg, the two public swimming rafts which we had refurbished and relaunched in summer 2014, and donated to the WCC).

Oriental Bay Residents Association has two public meetings each year – its Annual General Meeting in May and a General Meeting in November. Information about the meetings is announced here on the website, as well as in the Bay View newsletters.

The financial year for membership runs to 31st March each year.

Current membership: As at 7 March 2021 we have 174 paid up subscriptions. To join or renew your membership, click here.

There’s an unofficial Facebook page, Oriental Bay, if you’d like to see what others share about the neighbourhood.

And there’s an Oriental Bay Twitter page, run by a couple of friends of OBRA, Mary Wareham and Seǝn Gillespie.

Charitable Activities & Donations

OBRA is registered as a Charity. Registration has been approved because the main objects of the Association include the protection of, and improvements to, public assets and facilities in the suburb. This is in the interest of visitors to Oriental Bay as well as our members and residents.

From time to time the Association seeks donations from members and others to fund the provision of public facilities. Examples are the children's playground at Freyberg Beach and the two swimming rafts in the Bay. Our Charitable status allows donors to claim the tax rebate of 33% of any donation to the Association.

The Executive Committee of the Association welcomes suggestions for projects which the Association could undertake or initiate. If you would like to donate to OBRA, donations are gratefully received.
